R. Dov Berish Weidenfeld/Tchbeiner Rav. Yerusholayim 1958. - Strongly worded letter signed by the Tchebeiner Rav to R. Meir Chernosky, who served as the head of the Chevra Kadisha in Tel Aviv, seemingly about some controversy surrounding the Chevra Kadisha stating “I still hold to my position not to get involved in this matter”. R. Dov Berish Weidenfeld (1881-1965), known as the Tchbeiner Rav, was the son of R. Yaakov of Rimalov (Kochav MiYaakov). He was famous from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with great diligence. Renowned throughout Galicia and Poland, in 1923 he was appointed as Rav in Tchebin. There he established a Yeshiva which attracted exceptionally talented Bochurim. After the passing of R. Meir Schapiro (1933), he joined the spiritual administration of the Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva, together with R. Tzvi Aryeh Frommer of Kozhliekov and R. Moshenyu of Boyan. During the Holocaust, he was exiled to Siberia then Bukhara, reaching Yerusholayim in 1946, where he founded the Kochav MiYaakov Tchebein Yeshiva. He was held in awe by his rabbinical contemporaries as well as by the masses. R. Aaron of Belz would refer Halachic questions to him. On his first Shavuos in Yerusholayim, he went to daven in the Beis Midrash of the Imrei Emes of Ger, who declared upon seeing him “Today we shall honor the Torah itself with the reading of the Ten Commandments”. 21.5 by 13.5 cm.
