R. Yosef Rosen/Rogatchover Gaon. Extremely rare personal letter. Dvinsk 1930. - Rare autograph letter by R. Yosef Rosen, the famed Rogatchover Gaon. Dated Rosh Chodesh Nissan 1930, to his “friend” R. Dovid Potash of Tel Aviv, with best wishes for a Joyful and Kosher Pesach. Although the Rogatchover responded to a vast amount of Torah queries, personal letters are extremely rare. R. Yosef Rosen (1858-1936), was born in Rogatchov and studied in the Slutzk Yeshiva under the Bais Ha’Levy together with R. Chaim Soloveitchik who was five years his senior. He subsequently studied under R. Yehoshua Leib Diskin in Shklov. In 1889, he became Rav of the Chassidic community in Dvinsk which he served for nearly fifty years alongside R. Meir Simcha Ha’Cohen who was the Rav of the Misnagdim there. He was a Talmudic genius, famous for both his lightning grasp and prodigious memory coupled with tremendous diligence.
