Yismach Moshe. Inscribed in 1933 Regarding the Burning of Seforim in Germany. Berlin 1928. - Classic Chassidic sefer on the Torah (Bereishis and Shemos only), by R. Moshe Teitelbaum, known as the Yismach Moshe after this sefer. This copy, published in Berlin 1928, has the following written (in Yiddish) inside. “1933 Germany burned all the beautiful Seforim. This writing should be a remembrance for me. Binyomin Schoenfeld”. On April 8th 1933, the Main Office for Press and Propaganda of the German Student Union proclaimed a nationwide “Action against the Un-German Spirit”, which was to include the burning of all books that did not align with the German philosophy. This culminated in the burning of tens of thousands of Seforim. This sefer which survived, provides stark evidence of this dark chapter of our nation’s history. Pardes press.
