Agunah Controversy. Historic Archive by many Prominent American Rabbonim. 1935. - In the early 20th century, there were attempts to set up marriages contingent upon certain clauses, creating a situation where the marriage can later be easily annulled without a get. The suggestion was fiercely opposed by nearly all the rabbinical leaders of the time, who saw this as a great threat to the sanctity of the Jewish people. In 1930, R. Chaim Ozer Grodzensky initiated the publishing of the work Ein T’nai B’Nissuin, which included letters by the most prominent Rabbonim on the issue. In 1937, the Agudas Ha’Rabonim of the United States and Canada published the work L’Dor Achron, containing letters, articles and protests by Rabbonim, who clearly state that a marriage cannot be conditional. The protest letters were submitted on postcards to Agudas Ha’Rabonim. This lot includes 26 of those original signed postcards, most of them adding some lines to the original protest. The names include; R. Avrohom Yitzchak Shisgal (Mechutan of R. Moshe Feinstein), R. Nissan Telushkin, R. Avrohom Chinitz (Yeshiva Torah Vodaath), R. Yosef Feimer (originally of Slutzk), R. Shmaryahu Horowitz of Baltimore, R. Yoseph Dov Horowitz of St. Paul, R. Zalman Yaakov Friedman of Boston, R. Moshe Yehuda Fisher, R. Yehuda Leib Zeltzer (secretary of the Agudas Ha’Rabonim, ) R.
