Classics. Teshuvos R. Akiva Eiger. First Edition. Warsaw 1834. Fine Copy. - Magnificent copy of the classic responsa of R. Akiva Eiger. The sefer includes 2 sections; Pesakim and Kesavim. The sefer was prepared for publishing by R. Akiva Eiger and his sons. In the introduction, R. Akiva Eiger famously instructs his sons to print the sefer on the finest paper available with beautiful letters, as he has found that it can otherwise be detrimental to learning. Indeed, the high-quality paper of this book was custom made, with many pages watermarked with the word “EIGER”. The sefer received almost unprecedented acclaim, and is one of the most frequently studied “Sifrei Achronim”. At the end of each section, there are curious illustrations, including trees with monkeys on them. Additionally, at the beginning of the Kesavim section, it states that although the section should start with responsum #1, the numbering is continued from the previous section, in order to discourage fraudsters from separating the sefer into two parts to maximize profits. R. Akiva Eiger-Ginz (1761-1836), was born in Eisenstadt into a rabbinical family and was well known as a child prodigy. He studied in the Yeshiva of Mattersdorf, and following that in Breslau as a student of his maternal uncle R. Wolf Eiger. In 1791, he was appointed as Rav of Friedland where he remained until 1815, after which he became the Rav of Posen. He was world renowned as an outstanding Talmid Chochom, Posek and foremost leader of European Jewry during the early 19th century. Among his children were his two sons, R. Avrohom (1781-1853), and R. Shlomo (1785-1852), who was Rav in Kalisz, Poland and succeeded R. Akiva Eiger as Rav of Posen. His daughter Sorel (Eiger) Sofer (1790-1832), was the wife of the Chasam Sofer.
