Published in the lifetime of the author. R. Moshe Alshich (1508-1600), was a talmid of R. Yosef Karo (Beis Yosef) and R. Yosef Tiatzik. He was born in Turkey and emigrated to Tzefas together with the Bais Yosef, and later served as a Dayan on the Bais Yosef’s Beis Din. Revered for his phenomenal scholarship both in the revealed parts of the Torah as well as Kabbalah, he has the distinction of being referred to as the Alshich Ha’Kodosh (the Holy Alshich).
