YERUSHOLAYIM 1944!  Historic letter with handwritten postscript and signature of R. Akiva Sofer The Da’as Sofer. Written to the renowned R. Yaakov Rosenheim of Agudas Yisroel. During the Holocaust there was a large influx of refugees from Hungary and Slovakia to Eretz Yisroel who followed the path of The Chasam Sofer. He writes that although there are many existing Chadarim and Yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel, some are for Yerushalmis, and some for refugees from Poland and Lita. There also non-orthodox institutions which are corrupting the youth and destroying Klal Yisroel. The refugees from Hungary and Slovakia have founded educational institutions based on the distinct approach of The Chasam Sofer! It is noteworthy that this letter was written in Tammuz of 1944, when the Holocaust wag raging and thousands of Jews were being murdered daily. At this critical juncture, the Da’as Sofer and his talmidim were involved in founding and strengthening Torah institutions!  R. Akiva Sofer (Da’as Sofer) (1878–1959), was a great-grandson of the Chasam Sofer. In 1906, he succeeded his father, the Shevet Sofer, as Rav & Rosh Yeshiva of the great Kehilla of Pressburg where he served until 1938, when he emigrated to Eretz Yisroel. Although R. Akiva Sofer famously retired from the Pressburg Rabbinate when he arrived in Eretz Yisroel, he stood at the helm of Chug Chasam Sofer, which had branches in Yerusholayim, Bnei Brak, Tel Aviv and Petach Tikvah.  22 by 28 cm.
