R. GAVRIEL ZEV MARGOLIS. HORODNA 1903. - R. GAVRIEL ZEV MARGOLIS. HORODNA 1903. Autograph postcard with Torah novella by R. Gavriel Zev Margolis written to R. Chaim Berlin (then serving as Rav of Yelizavetgrad).  R. Gavriel Zev (Velvel) Margolis (1847-1935) was born in Vilna and learned in Yeshivas Volozhin. An outstanding Talmid Chochom, he married the daughter of R. Nochum Kaplan (known as R. Nochumke Horodna) who was the Rebbe of The Chofetz Chaim. He served as a Rav in Lithuania and in 1907 immigrated to America settling in Boston. He invested great efforts in raising the prevalent dismal standards of American Orthodoxy and eventually was forced to leave Boston. He moved to New York where he was among the most prominent rabbinical figures and served as the president of Knesses HaRabbanim. A prolific author, he authored various seforim, including his classic Toras Gavriel.   14 by 9 cm. Fine condition. Opening bid $200
