Halachic responsa authored by the renowned R. Yaakov Sasportas with the signature and stamp of R. Nachum Dov Ber Freidman of Sadigura. R. Yaakov Sasportas (1610-1698), was famed as a great Rav and Mekubal. He served in various important rabbinical positions, most notably Amsterdam. He was associated with R. Menashe Ben Israel and joined him as part of the delegation to London to persuade Oliver Cromwell to allow the Jews to resettle in England. He was one of the most vocal rabbinical figures opposing Shabtai Tzvi writing many letters warning Jewish communities of the dangers of The False Messiah. R. Nochum Dov Ber (Berenu) Friedman (1843-1883), was a son of R. Shalom Yosef Friedman of Sadigura (eldest son of R. Yisroel of Ruzhin) and son-in-law of R. Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura, also a son of Rabbi Yisroel of Ruzhin. He had an extensive library of Seforim. Although many volumes of R. Nochum Berenu’s library have survived, it is unusual to find volumes with his signature.
