First edition of the Classic responsa Pri Yitzchak authored by R. Yitzchak Blazer (R. Itzele Peterburger) to R. Aryeh Leib Schneerson. Although it is not clear to which R. Aryeh Leib Schneerson it was given, the honorifics ”מגזע קדושים אלים ותרשישים ”indicate that the recipient was descended from “Bais HaRav” i.e. a descendant of The Alter Rebbe, although this has not been established conclusively.   R. Yitzchak Blazer, known as R. Itzele Peterburger (1837-1907), was among the prominent talmidim of R. Yisrael Salanter and was actively involved in the dissemination of Mussar in the Lithuanian Yeshivos. An exceptional Talmid Chochom and great Ba’al Mussar he was appointed as Rov of St. Petersburg at the behest of R. Yisrael, a position he held between 1862-1878. In 1878, he resigned and moved to Kovno. From 1880, he headed the Kovno Kollel for a number of years. In 1904, he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel settling in Yerusholayim where he was greatly revered.
