MAGEN DOVID. FIRST EDITION ZHITOMIR 1852. FINE COPY! - Novella on the weekly Torah portions and Yamim Tovim by R. Dovid of Tolna. This sefer is unusual as it was published during the author’s lifetime unlike most Chassidic seforim. In the preface to the Lvov 1880 edition the author famously writes ”I hereby declare that any man of wise heart who acquires this sefer and learns it, I hope it will serve as a healing for his body and soul, both spiritually and physically, in this world and the next, and that he will succeed with both temporal and eternal success.” R. Dovid of Tolna (1808-1882) was the eldest son of R. Mordechai of Chernobyl. He married the daughter of R. Yisrael Avraham of Czarny Ostrów, son of the legendary, Rebbe R. Zusha of Anipoli. He was known from his youth a tremendous Tzadik. Following his father’s passing in 1837 he served as a Rebbe, first in Vasilkova and later in Tolna where many thousands of Chasidim flocked to him. One of the most prominent Chasidic leaders of his time, he had an enormous influence on his generation.  Includes the red title page as well as the final page of corrections!
