YERUSHOLAYIM 1874. RABBINIC INSCRIPTION!  In the Eastern lands, an ancient folk practice of sorcery known as Indulco was prevalent amongst Arab women. It was commonly used to banish evil spirits from an invalid or a woman in labor. Unfortunately, this practice also spread amongst Jewish women. R. Menashe Sutton (died 1876) who was amongst the great scholars of Aleppo and later Tzfas, invested great efforts to combat this practice considering it idol worship. He received unprecedented support from both the Sephardic and Ashkenazic rabbinical leaders from the four great communities of Yerusholayim, Tzfas, Chevron and Tiveria. He authored this sefer Knessia L’shem Shamayim with his halachic responsa against this practice. It received dozens of rabbinical approbations and supplementary Halachic responsa and remains an important halachic and Hashkafic sefer on this enigmatic subject.  With an autograph inscription of the author’s son R. Hillel David Sutton, known as Hacham David Menashe.  HaLevy 210. Sasson press. 2, 92, 1 pages. 19 cm. Overall fine condition, slight wear and stains. Modern leather binding.  Opening bid $200
