Originally known by the title Manhir Einey Chachomim. R. Meir of Lublin (1558-1616) served as Rav in a number of important communities most notably Lublin after which he is known as The MaHaRa”M Lublin. In Lublin, he led a great Yeshiva where his talmidim included R. Yeshaya HaLevi Horowitz (The SHLa”H), R. Meir Katz (father of The ShaCh), R. Eprahim Zalman Schor (The Tevuas Shor) and R. Yehoshua Heshel Charif (The Meginei Shlomo). His commentary on Shas simply known as The MaHaRa”M has remained one the most classic commentaries on Shas.  Stefansky classics 289.
