Chayei Olam Cremation Only Edition. Berlin 1905. - Collected letters expounding on the severity of cremation compiled by R. Meir Lerner. R. Meir Lerner (1857-1930), served in various important rabbinical positions, including as Rav of the Federation of Synagogues in London and as the Chief Rabbi of Altona. He was a vigorous opponent of the Reform movement, particularly in regard to their practice to permit cremation in place of traditional full burial. Consequently, R. Meir refused to permit the burial of such ashes in a Jewish cemetery. In order to support his position, he gathered responsa from approximately 200 Rabbonim from all over the world, running the gamut from Lithuanian authorities such as R. Yechiel Michel Epstein (Oruch HaShulchan), to Chassidic Rebbes such as R. Chaim Elazar Shapiro of Munkacs (Minchas Elozor), German Rabbinical scholars such as R. Asher Marx of Darmstadt and leading Rabbinical figures from Eretz Yisroel including the Aderes and the Sdei Chemed. With an additional title page in German. Itzkowski press. XXVI, 133 pages. 23 cm. Good condition. Some worming, mainly on the margins. One page torn. Modern binding. Opening bid $200
