He was a Talmid of R. Avrohom Azoulai, and was renowned as one of the distinguished Mekubalim of Marrakesh. After being persecuted and tortured by the Moroccan king, he moved to London where he served on The Ashkenazic Bais Din. Enormously respected his seforim were warmly received and are classic Sifrei Kabbalah.
