Menashe Ben Israel (1604-1657), was descended from Portuguese Jews who fled to Holland to escape the Inquisition. Renowned as a great Kabbalist, author, diplomat, printer and publisher, he founded a Hebrew press in Amsterdam where he published numerous important seforim.
