LEVUSH TWO PARTS. PRAGUE 1624. COPY OF R. DOVID TZVI EHRENFELD (SON IN LAW OF THE CHASAM SOFER). UNIDENTIFIED RABBINCAL GLOSSES. - Rare edition of the Levush, by R. Mordechai Yaffe. Includes two parts; Levush Ir Shushan on Choshen Mishpat and Levush Ateres Zahav on Yoreh De’ah. With an inscription on the first title page stating that this sefer belongs to R. Dovid Hersh Ehrenfeld son in law of The Gaon, The Rav of Pressburg (i.e. The Chasam Sofer). R. Mordechai Yaffe (1530-1612), known as The Levush, was born in Prague and learned under R. Shlomo Luria (Ma’HarShaL) in Lublin and the ReMA in Cracow. After his marriage he settled in Prague, where he established a Yeshiva. He later served in various important rabbinical positions, including Lublin, Prague and Posen. Received with enormous acclaim, the Levush is one of the most fundamental Halachic works.  R. Dovid Tzvi Ehrenfeld (died 1862), was a close talmid and the eldest son in law of The Chasam Sofer. Renowned as an outstanding Talmid Chochom he is mentioned numerous times in Teshuvos Chasam Sofer. Father of R. Shmuel Ehrenfeld of Mattesdorf-The Chasan Sofer. Additional signature “Mordechai Orenstein” seemingly the father of R. Chaim Avrohom Orenstein distinguished talmid of The Chasam Sofer, Rav of Bardiov & author of Sefer Divrei Avrohom & Bais Avrohom. Additional unidentified rabbinical glosses.
