Meir Leibish Malbim (1809-1879), known by the acronym “Malbim” (Meir Leibish Ben Yechiel Michel), served as Rav in various communities including Wretchen, Kempfen, and Bucharest. He was famous for his fierce opposition to the Reform Movement, which resulted in his imprisonment and loss of citizenship. He authored many important seforim including his magnum opus; Pairush Ha’Malbim on Tanach, which was received with great acclaim and is greatly beloved by both scholars and laymen.
