R. Moshe Dovid Ashkenazi (1774-1856), was born in Galicia to R. Asher Anshel, who was a descendant of R. Shalom Shachna of Lublin, the Shach, the Taz, the Chacham Tzvi, the Tosfos Yom Tov and others. At the age of 29, he was appointed Rav and Rebbe in Tolchova, Hungary. In 1843, he emigrated to Eretz Yisroel and settled in Tzefas where he led the Ashkenazi community. He corresponded with the Chasam Sofer and the Yismach Moshe. Father in-law of the Yetev Lev of Sighet and great-grandfather of the Satmar Rov.
With stamps of R. Shlomo Friedman of Chortkov (1894-1959), son and successor of R. Nochum Mordechai Friedman of Chortkov and grandson of R. Yisroel of Chortkov.
