Meir Schapiro (1887-1933), was known as a child prodigy and referred to as the Illui of Shotz. He served as Rav of Galina, Sanock, Pietrekow and finally Lublin. He founded Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin which became the flagship Yeshiva in Poland, and he initiated the Daf Ha’Yomi program which is now learned by tens of thousands worldwide. As one of the leading Rabbinic figures, Rosh Yeshiva and Torah leader in prewar Europe, R. Meir Schapiro had a profound influence on his own generation. As the initiator of The Daf Yomi, his influence continues to reach tens of thousands on a daily basis. R. Aryeh Tzvi Frommer (1884-1943), was a talmid of The Avnei Nezer. Known as a brilliant Talmid Chochom, he served as Rav in various communities notably Kozhliekov after which is known. He also served as a Rosh Yeshiva and had a profound influence on many talmidim. Following the passing of R. Meir Schapiro in 1933, he was appointed to the distinguished position of Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin. In that capacity, he taught hundreds of Talmidim and was one of the most well-known Rabbinical figures in Poland. His responsa Eretz Tzvi was received to great acclaim.
