Sefer HaBris HaChadosh. Sambatyon River. Only Edition. Pietrekow 1911 - Sefer HaBris HaChadosh. Sambatyon River. Only Edition. Pietrekow 1911 The subject of the ten lost tribes and the legendary “Sambatyon” river has fascinated many scholars for hundreds of years. In 1901, Uziel Haga of Boston petitioned President McKinley for a permit to tour China to research the routes and customs of Chinese Jewry. He accompanied the U.S. Armed Forces on an expedition to China. Haga presents his findings in this work which portrays a comprehensive description of Chinese Jewish life and customs, including a prayer recited by Chinese Jews during the seven days of mourning. The author maintains that the Jews of Kaifeng in Hunan Province are descendants of the exiled Ten Lost Tribes, most particularly, the Tribe of Asher. Tragically he was suspected of espionage and was imprisoned by the Boxers and died after being tortured. Tzederboim press. 56 pages. 20.5 cm. Fine condition. Bound with, Even Shleimah. Vilna 1906.
