Meir Ha’Cohen Schiff. R. Meir Schiff known as the MaHaRaM Schiff (1605–1641), was one of the greatest Talmidei Chachomim of his time. At the young age of seventeen, he was appointed to the distinguished position as Rav of Fulda, where he also headed a famous yeshivah. His novella are classics of Talmudic discourses and remain widely learned up until today. On the title page appears a fascinating illustration depicting the story of Rabbah Bar Bar Channah and the sailors who descended from their ship and lit a fire on the back of a whale, mistakenly assuming it was land (Baba Basra 73b). This is as an allusion to the author’s name MaHaRaM Schiff (Schiff in Yiddish means ship). Stefansky Hebrew Classics 75. Vinograd Hamburg 33. Dessau press. [1], 75, 25 pages. 34 cm.
