Yosef Thumim (1727-1792), was primarily a talmid of his father R. Meir Thumim. At the age of 20 he moved to Komarna where he spent more than a decade learning and writing, in addition to working as a melamed. In 1767 he went to Berlin to co-head a Bais HaMedrash for exceptional scholars together with R. Tzvi Hersch Levin.
