Yeshaya HaLevi Horowitz, the ShLoH HaKadosh. R. Yeshaya Ha’Levi Horowitz (1555-1630), was born in Prague. He was a talmid of his father R. Avrohom Horowitz, who in turn was a talmid of the ReMA. He also learned under R. Meir of Lublin (Ma’HaRaM) and R. Yehoshua Falk (The Perisha). He served as Rov in several prestigious Kehillos including Vienna, Posen and Frankfurt. Following the expulsion of Jews from Frankfurt (1614), he was appointed as Rov of Prague. In 1621, (after the death of his wife), he moved to Eretz Yisroel and was appointed Rov of the Ashkenazic community in Yerusholayim. Following an incident where he was kidnapped and imprisoned (together with 15 other Rabbonim) and held for ransom, he relocated to Tzfas.
