R. Eliezer Kalir/Ohr Chodosh. Rechnitz 1789. - Historical letter signed by R. Eliezer Kalir and the Roshei Ha’Kehilah of Rechnitz, written to the Kehilla in Oben-Yoshon requesting financial assistance to repair the Shul building whose roof is in danger of collapse. R. Eliezer Kalir (1738-1802) was a grandson of R. Meir Eisenstadt (Ponim Me’iros) and one of the greatest leaders of his generation, held in enormous esteem by his rabbinical colleagues as well as by the masses. He served as Rav in various communities, including Rechnitz, where he led a great Yeshiva, Oben-Yoshon and Kollin.
