Meir Leibish Malbim/R. Nosson Adler. 1856. ר’ מאיר לייביש מלבי”ם/ר’ נתן אדלר. תרט”ז (1856). - Autograph letter by the Malbim. Written to R. N. Adler, Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, regarding a donation to benefit the “Kollel Warsaw” in Yerusholayim. The Malbim gives specific instructions about the donation, mentioning R. Nochum (i.e. R. Nochum Shadicker) as one of the recipients and requests a receipt. R. Meir Leibish Malbim (1809-1879) known by the acronym “Malbim” (Meir Leibish Ben Yechiel Michel) served as Rav in various communities including Wretchen, Kempfen, and Bucharest. He was famous for his fierce opposition to the Reform movement, which resulted in his imprisonment and loss of citizenship. He authored many important seforim including his magnum opus; Pairush Ha’Malbim on Tanach, which was received with great acclaim and is greatly beloved by both scholars and laymen.
