Tzvi Hirsch Kalischer 1867. ר’ צבי הירש קאלישר תרכ”ז (1867). - Autograph letter signed twice. Seemingly regarding fundraising for the Yishuv in Erets Yisroel. R. Kalischer asks the recipient to convey his warm greetings to R. Elya Gutmacher, Rav of Greiditz. R. Tzvi Hirsch Kalischer (1795-1874), was a prize talmid of R. Yaakov of Lisa, (Chavas Da’as), and R. Akiva Eiger. He served as Rav in the community of Thorn for over 40 years and famously refused any remuneration, being supported instead by means of a small business run by his wife. He authored numerous seforim, including Drishas Tzion, published in 1866, in which he outlined his ideas for a Yishuv in Eretz Yisrael both from a halachic and a practical point of view. He is widely considered to have been one of the foremost rabbinical personalities who supported the founding of the new Yishuv. 23 by 38.5 cm. Good condition, reinforced with tape. Opening bid $350
