Yisroel Friedman/ Husyatiner Rebbe.
ר’ישראל פרידמן/הוסיאטין.

Autograph letter dated 1936, written from Vienna. The Rebbe begins this correspondence by writing that he is writing this letter himself; rather than through his gabbai, in order to stress the urgency of the matter. The Rebbe then requests financial assistance to enable his son in law (later successor) R. Yaakov Friedman to emigrate to Eretz Yisroel. The Rebbe writes that his son in law very much wishes to settle in Erets Yisroel, and continues that he considers assistance given to his son-in-law as if it was given to him himself. It is of particular interest that the Rebbe finishes by writing that if Divine Providence allows, he and the Rebbetzin will also emigrate to Eretz Yisroel. This was ultimately achieved the following year.
R. Yisroel Friedman (1858-1949) was a grandson of R. Yisroel of Ruzhin after whom he was named. In 1894 he succeeded his father R. Mordechai Feivish as Husyatiner Rebbe. He was world-renowned as great Tsaddik to whom many turned in their hour of need and was particularly famous for his power of prayer. In 1937, at an advanced age the age of 80, he fled the impending Holocaust and traveled to Erets Yisroel. He reestablished his court in Tel Aviv, where he was considered to be among the most senior and respected Rebbes until his passing in 1949. There are countless instances of Divine salvation brought about by his fervent prayers, including the historic prayers he led at the Kever of the Ohr Ha’Chaim Ha’Kodosh together with R. Shlomke of Zhvill when the Nazis were poised to invade Erets Yisroel.
R. Yaakov Freidman (1878-1953) was a son of R. Yitzchok of Bohush and a great grandson of R. Yisroel of Ruzhin. He was the son in law of R. Yisroel of Husyatin whom he succeeded as Husyatiner Rebbe. Author of Sefer Ohalei Yaakov.
