Eliezer Yehuda Finkel - Autograph letter of recommendation dated 1924 on behalf of a student of the Mir yeshiva, written and signed by both R. E.Y. Finkel and R. E.B. Kamai. The two Rosh Yeshivas both eloquently attest to this student’s great talents and Talmudic abilities, and their confidence that he will blossom to be a great asset to the Jewish people. R. Eliezer Yehuda Finkel (1879-1965) was a son of R. Nosson Tzvi Finkel (Alter of Slabodka). In 1903 he married the daughter of R. Elya Boruch Kamai whom he succeeded as Rosh Yeshiva. At the onset of WWII, R. Eliezer Yehuda traveled to Palestine in an attempt to obtain visas for his students with the intention of relocating the yeshiva to Jerusalem, but these plans were interrupted by the upheavals of the war. In 1944, he opened a branch of the yeshiva in Jerusalem which today has grown to be the largest yeshiva in the world. R. Avrohom Tzvi Hirsch Kamai (1860-1941) was a son and disciple of R. Elya Boruch Kamai whom he succeeded as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of Mir. Known as an outstanding Talmid Chochom as well as a great Posek he was revered as one of the preeminent rabbinical leaders in prewar Lithuania. Tragically murdered during the Holocaust together with the members of his community whom he led until their very last moments. 21 by 28 cm. Fine condition. Opening bid $500
