Refoel Blum - Official judicial document by the Beth Din of Kashau-Slovakia dated 1946, permitting a Holocaust survivor to remarry based on testimony of his wife’s passing. Typed on letterhead of a Beth Din set up specifically to deal with helping Agunos. Signed by the Kashau Rov along with two other Dayanim. In the aftermath of the Holocaust one of the most pressing and difficult concerns was the tragic plight of those whose spouses disappeared in the horrors of the Holocaust. The unprecedented circumstances were tackled by many of the greatest surviving rabbinical figures of the era who devoted their best efforts to solving these complex and heart wrenching halachic queries. R. Refoel Blum (1911–2005) was a disciple of R. Shaul Brach whom he succeeded as Rav of Kashau. After the Holocaust he immigrated to the U.S. where he headed the Tzelemer yeshiva, and later established Kiryas Kashau. World renowned for his piety and tremendous scholarship. 21 by 30 cm.
