Shimon Zev Ehrman of Ungvar to the office of Ezras Torah in New York, thanking them for the donation of $55. Since at the time, it was illegal to receive foreign currency (a law which local authorities ruthlessly enforced against the Jews), he ingeniously wrote “I received your gift of the Chamisha Chumshei Torah ($55), with the commentary of the “Nekudas HaKesef”, thus avoiding any suspicion. Written during WWII when all communication and particularly the transfer of funds from America was extremely difficult. R. Shimon Zev Ehrman served as a Rav of the Chevra Machzikei Ha’Daas in Ungvar. 18 by 13 cm. Fine condition. Opening bid $500
