ZERA SHIMSHON. FIRST EDITION. MANTUA 1778. SEGULAH FOR CHILDREN AND PARNASSAH. - Deroshos on the weekly Torah portion as well as on the Megillos, by R. Shimshon Chaim son of R. Nachman Michael Nachmani. R. Shimshon Chaim Nachmani (1706-1779), was a renowned Talmid Chochom and Mekubal who lived in Italy. He resided in the renowned communities of Modena and Mantua where he taught Torah. Highly revered, many of his talmidim later held rabbinic positions in various Italian communities. The CHIDA writes about him that he was well versed in practical Kabbalah and ordered his Kabbalistic writings to be buried with him in his grave (Shem HaGedolim, Mareches Seforim, 46). In the introduction, the author implores “with ten expressions of prayer” that his sefer be learned, and blesses those who do so: “ The One who repays will recompense you… with the threefold blessing of offspring, life and abundant livelihood”. Further in the preface, the author writes that since his only son had passed away, leaving him without descendants, he named his work Zera Shimshon, and promises that “your eyes will witness sons and grandsons like shoots of the olive tree around your table, wise and understand, and houses full of goodness, wealth and honor shall not cease from your descendants…”. In recent years, interest in the sefer has increased tremendously and there are many wondrous accounts related of those who received Divine assistance after learning the sefer. Vinograd Mantua 486.
