SIDDUR BEIS RACHEL SHA’AR HALLEL HASHEM. R. NAFTALI KATZ/SEMICHAS CHACHOMIM. AMSTERDAM 1816. - Introduction to the Siddur authored by R. Naftali Katz, the famed Semichas Chachomim, published here together with the Amsterdam Siddur K’Minhag Poland and Tehillim. Three separate title pages. R. Naftali Katz (1650-1718), was known from a young age for his piety and diligence. In 1689, he was appointed Rav of Posen. In 1704, he was appointed to the prestigious position as Rav of Frankfurt. In 1711, a big fire broke out in Frankfurt, and he was falsely accused of starting a fire while performing Kabbalistic rituals. As a result, he was jailed, but eventually released, and forced to leave the city. He then moved to Prague and in c. 1718, he decided to ascend to Eretz Yisroel, however he passed away, while in Istanbul, Turkey, where he is buried. He has many distinguished descendants including the Rebbes of Belz. In 1944 whilst in Turkey En-route to Eretz Yisroel R. Aaron of Belz sent a messenger to pray on his behalf at the kever of The Semichas Chachomim and until the present time the Kever continues to be visited. Vinograd Amsterdam 2436, 2443.
