Yosef Katz, who added an introduction as well as a biography of the RaMCHaL. R. Moshe Chaim Luzzato (1707 -1746), was born in Padua, Italy into a distinguished family. His genius was obvious from a very early age, and as a young man he was already well known for his complete mastery of the entire Biblical, Rabbinic and Kabbalistic literature. He was most well-known for his Mesilas Yesharim – perhaps the most popular Mussar work in Jewish literature. Until today, his profound works continue to touch and inspire Jews of all groups.
