CLASSICS. SHITAH MEKUBETZES. FIRST PUBLISHED VOLUME. BAVA METZIA. FIRST EDITION. AMSTERDAM 1721. UNIDENTIFIED RABBINICAL SIGNATURES AND GLOSSES. EXTREMELY RARE! - Classic sefer of collected novella of the Rishonim on Maseches Bava Metzia, complied by R. Betzalel Ashkenazi. This was the first part of the classic Shita Mekubetzes to be published. Warmly received, for hundreds of years the Shitah Mekubetzes has remained one of the most widely studied seforim. R. Betzalel Ashkenazi (c. 1520-1592), was one of the most well-known early Achronim and compiler of the Shitah Mekubetzes. He had many distinguished talmidim, notably R. Yitzchak Luria, the AR”I HaKadosh and R. Shlomo Adani, (author of the Meleches Shlomo commentary on the Mishnah). On the title page the publishers write that “they only printed 500 copies of this sefer”, hence a first edition of this sefer is particularly rare! Stefansky Hebrew classics 62.
