Nezer Yisroel. Kozhnitzer Maggid. First Edition. Lemberg 1864
Commentary on the Zohar, by R. Yisroel Hopstein, the Kozhnitzer Maggid.
R. Yisroel Hopstein (1737-1815), was born to aged parents following a blessing they received from the Baal Shem Tov. He was known as an Ilui, and initially learned under R. Shmelke of Nikolsburg, who later sent him to learn under the Mezritcher Maggid. Following the passing of the Mezritcher Maggid in 1772, he became a talmid of R. Elimelech of Lizhensk and was one of his most prominent disciples. In 1765, he was appointed as Maggid in Kozhnitz. He was leader of thousands of Chassidim, becoming one of the primary Chassidic leaders in Poland.
