Second Chassidic Sefer published! - R. Yaakov Yosef of Polonyia (d. 1781), was the primary Talmid and disseminator of the Torah of the Ba’al Shem Tov. His first Sefer Toldos Yaakov Yosef was published in 1780. That was followed by this Sefer Ben Poras Yosef in 1781. The Seforim of the Toldos are the primary and most original source of the Torah of The Ba’al Shem Tov. Throughout the sefer the words “I have heard from my teacher” are stressed. The Sefer was particularly cherished by Chassidic Rebbes who superlatively extolled its holiness. The Mezritcher Maggid commended the author stating that he merited the revelation of Eliyohu Ha’Navi and attained elevated spiritual status. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod (375).
