However, it has since been questioned if the Shitah Mekubetzes on Beitzah was actually authored by R. Bezalel Ashkenazi or rather by a different author in the same format. Meir Leibush Malbim (1809-1879), known by the acronym “Malbim” (Meir Leibush Ben Yechiel Michel), served as Rav in various communities including Wretchen, Kempfen, and Bucharest. He was famous for his fierce opposition to the Reform Movement, which resulted in his imprisonment and loss of citizenship. He authored many important seforim including his magnum opus; Peirush Ha’Malbim on TaNaCH, which was received with great acclaim and is greatly beloved by both scholars and laymen.
