Derech Chaim. MaHaRaL of Prague. Second Edition. Warsaw 1833. Magnificent Copy! - Classic commentary to Pirkei Avos by the MaHaRaL of Prague. This second edition includes an approbation by the MaHaRIL Tzintz. In addition to being one the greatest of his era, the MaHaRaL is particularly famous for his distinctive explanations of Agados Chazal. He published most of his philosophical compositions during his lifetime, thereby preserving them for posterity. Unfortunately, many of his other works on Halacha and his Talmudic novella were lost. Chassidic leaders and especially the Maggid of Kozhnitz recognized the importance of the reflective teachings of the MaHaRaL and encouraged their reprinting at the end of the 18th century. In the words of R. Yitzchok Hutner, the teachings of the MaHaRaL are “Nistar BeLashon Nigleh”, meaning “That which is hidden in the language of that which is revealed”. Vinograd Warsaw 93.
