Rare volume of the Basel Talmud including Masechtos Sofrim, Smachos and Kallah.
From about 1500, Basel became a center of scholarly study of Judaism. Hebrew was taught at the University of Basel, and the Basel printing presses gained worldwide fame with their prints of Jewish writings. In 1578 Ambrosius Froben began printing an edition of the Babylonian Talmud.
