One of the earliest works of responsa by an Acharon, this classic work of responsa and novella was written by R. Yosef Ibn Lev.
R. Yosef Ibn Lev (1500-1580), was a leading Sephardic Halachic authority who lived during the times of the Beis Yosef. The Chida writes in Shem HaGedolim that there were three “Chachamim” named “Yosef” in the generation of the Beis Yosef, all of whom were worthy of compiling the Shulchan Aruch; R. Yosef Karo, R. Yosef Ibn Lev and R. Yosef Tiatzik.
R. Yitzchak Isaac Weisz (1824-1892), was a talmid of R. Yitzchak Isaac of Zidichoiv and the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. Renowned as a great Talmid Chochom, he served as Rav in Svalyava, and later as Rosh Av Beis Din in Munkacs. Author of Divrei Yitzchak and Toldos Yitzchak.
