Of particular interest is a mention of the tribulations to the Jewish people during World War One. As is well known, many thousands of young Jewish men were lost in battle during the War. This caused a great number of Agunos and R. Mordechai Winkler, was at the forefront of the Halachic issues posed by these tragic circumstances. R. Mordechai Winkler (1845-1932) was a disciple of the Ksav Sofer and R. Yitzchok Aaron Landsberg. He served as Rav in various communities most notably Mad in Hungary.
