Steif R. Yonason\Shechita - Steif R. Yonason\Shechita. Autograph memorandum written on rabbinical letterhead concerning “Shechutei Chutz”. In many pre-war European communities, it was rabbinicaly forbidden to use meat and poultry that was not shechted locally. This was often the cause of considerable disagreements, with the disgruntled parties commonly arguing that the prohibition was driven by financial interests. R. Yonason Steif (1877-1958) was renowned as a great Rav and was held in great esteem. He served as Rosh Beis Din in Budapest. After miraculously surviving the Holocaust, he served as Rav of the Viener Kehilla in New York until his passing. Excellent condition. 15 by 23 cm. Opening bid $250
