Epstein R. Yechiel Michel/Aruch Ha’Shulchan - Epstein R. Yechiel Michel/Aruch Ha’Shulchan. Letter of recommendation dated 1903, with important Halachic ruling. For hundreds of years the Yishuv in Eretz Yisroel sent emissaries (Shadar’im) to the Diaspora to raise funds. A Shadar was a prominent position and many Talmidei Chachomim of note served as such, e.g. the Chida and R. Shmuel Salant. In this letter the Aruch Shulchan endorses the notion that a worthy son in law of a recently deceased Shadar should succeed his father in law in this esteemed position. R. Yechiel Michel Epstein (1830-1908) was known as one of the great rabbinical leaders and Halachic decisors of his era. In 1873 he was appointed as Rav of Novardok where he served with distinction until his passing. His magnum opus Aruch Ha’Shulchan was received with great acclaim and remains a classic Halachic work. Good/fair condition, some folds with minor repairs. 17.5 by 21.5 cm. With rabbinical stamp. Opening bid $3000
