Ha’Rav Kook V’Kadur Regel. Yerushalayim 1930’s - Ha’Rav Kook V’Kadur Regel. Yerushalayim 1930’s. Addendum to the Kol Yisroel Periodical published under the auspices of R. Amrom Blau of the Neturei Karta. In the early 1930’s a great controversy arose in Yerushalayim with the members of Maccabi playing soccer matches on Shabbos, claiming that a certain Rav had ruled leniently on the matter. R. Kook wrote a halachic responsum in 1931, absolutely forbidding it, adding that Maccabi’s violation of Shabbos was damaging the very fabric of Jewish nationhood. Apparently in a different forum R. Kook had said that soccer per se is a positive thing. R. Kook’s opponents audaciously seized upon this statement, and often attempted to misinterpret it against him. Zuckerman press. 23.2 by 31.2 cm.
