Anti-Zionist/Mizrachi proclamation. Sighet 1930 - Anti-Zionist/Mizrachi proclamation. Sighet 1930. In 1920 an extremely strongly worded Anti-Zionist letter was issued by the leading Rabbis of Transylvania. It declared that there could be no differentiation between secular Zionists and religious Zionists and in general they were both worse than the Reformers “Neologues” with whom association had been forbidden in 1869. Signed by the preeminent rabbinical leaders of the region including R. Shaul Brach of Nitra, R. Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich of Shimlau and R. Joel Teitelbaum. Curiously the signature of R. Joel Teitelbaum appeared without the name of the city Satmar where he served as Rav. This letter from the Beis din of Sighet in 1930 declared that is incumbent upon everybody to uphold the earlier condemnation. Signed by R. Shmuel Dov Heller, R. Meir Dovid Taback and R. Yekusiel Yehuda Gross. 19 by 31.5 cm. Good condition, folds and filing holes, some stains. Pasted onto backing. Opening bid $300
