The upheaval and turmoil caused by World War One and the Russian Revolution displaced hundreds of thousands, and caused tremendous food shortages across Europe. The difficulties were particularly felt by Jews who found themselves not only homeless, destitute and starving but also frequently blamed and persecuted for supposedly causing the crisis. To assist in this humanitarian crisis the American Jewish Relief Committee for sufferers of the War, led by Louis Marshall, Arthur Lehman and Jacob Billikopf spearheaded a campaign urging American Jewry to assist their needy brethren. The Broadside includes an urgent Telegram sent by Secretary Of State Robert Lansing describing “the unexampled catastrophe facing the Polish Jews”. 26 by 48 cm. Excellent condition.
