Hagadah Ma’asey Hashem. Lublin 1584 - Hagadah Ma’asey Hashem. Lublin 1584. Important commentary authored by R. Eliezer Ashkenazi divided into four parts. Ma’asey Bereishis concerning the six days of creation, Ma’asey Avos concerning the Forefathers, Ma’asey Mitzrayim concerning the Exodus and Ma’asey Torah concerning Matan Torah. The section Ma’asey Mitzrayim includes the text of the Hagadah with a commentary. The commentary which is a combination of an Agaddic style and Kabbalistic explication was received with great acclaim. Republished many times, numerous later commentators on the Hagadah based their works on it. R. Eliezer Ashkenazi (1512-1585) was one of the early achronim. According to some historians he was a grandson of R. Yosef Kolon (Ma’HarIK). He was a disciple of R. Yosef Tiatzik and an associate of R. Moshe Alshich. He first served as a Rav in Egypt (1538-60) until he was forced by circumstances to leave. Following that he travelled extensively serving as Rav in various communities including Venice, Prague, Cremona, Posen and finally Krakow where he is buried. Although various Bibliographers are of the opinion that the sefer was actually printed in Krakow in 1584, Vinograd and Yudlov both maintain that it was actually printed in Lublin.
