This edition was published by the sons of the Gaon, together with his talmidim, R. Menachem Mendel and R. Yisroel of Shklov, and his grandson R. Yaakov Moshe of Slonim. In his famous introduction, printed on verso of the title page, R. Chaim of Volozhin describes the approach of the Gaon of Vilna in explaining the Shulchan Aruch. On the second page, there is a lengthy and noteworthy foreword by the sons of the Gaon, in which they portray the greatness of their father from birth, his special practices and his study methods. On the third page, there is a foreword by R. Menachem Mendel of Shklov, followed by the foreword of R. Yaakov Moshe of Slonim. The fourth page contains the foreword of the editor R.
