Segulah to Halt an Epidemic! First Edition. Yosefow 1867. Magnificent Wide Margined Copy. Regal paper! First printed Torah of the Chidushei Ha’Rim - Responsa on all four parts of Shulchan Aruch, as well as novella on several tractates, by R. Yitzchak Meir Alter of Ger, the Chidushei Ha’Rim. This was the first printed Torah of the Chidushei Ha’Rim. An interesting event is recorded as having occurred surrounding the printing of this sefer. In 1867, a severe plague was sweeping through the towns and villages of Poland, causing many deaths. R. Henoch of Alexander sent one of his Chassidim, R. Shlomo Buchweitz of Warsaw on a mission to the Sfas Emes, to ask him to begin publishing the Torah of his grandfather, the Chidushei Ha’Rim. He claimed that “surely the dissemination of the teachings of this Tzaddik, who studied…Torah in holiness and purity, will be a Segulah that the plague should cease. About such Torah teachings it says: Great is Torah, since it gives life to its observers”. When the Sfas Emes heard the words of the Alexander Rebbe, he began preparing his grandfather’s responsa for print and as soon as it was printed, the epidemic ceased (see Meir Einei Ha’Golah, page 78) Stefansky Chassidus 211.
